چکیده
An electronic spirometer which utllizee a thermistor end an linearizing circuit, was evaluated. When compared to a Collins 13.5 liter water seal spirometer, 60 test results from 30 patienls revealed no clinically significant difference in forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEVih or maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV). The device was found durable Pnd highly usefd in the hospital or cllnic.

Application and Evaluation of Portable Field Instruments for Measuring Forced Expiratory Volume of Children and Adults in Environmental Health Surveys
In support of Health Effects Research Studies, pulmonary function tests are periodically administered to a large number of children. The ventilatory performance of these children is being evaluated by measuring the 0.75-sec forced expiratory volume (FEV(0.75)) with a waterless mechanical volume spirometer used in conjunction with an electronic timing unit. During a 1-yr testing period, operatio...
متن کاملEvaluation of a new electronic spirometer: the vitalograph "Escort" spirometer.
BACKGROUND The "Escort" spirometer is a lightweight, hand held spirometer employing a Fleisch pneumotachograph. Measurements of forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), and peak expiratory flow (PEF) are obtained from a single FVC manoeuvre. Results are displayed on a small liquid crystal display, but there is no graphical display. The performance of the Escor...

متن کاملEvaluation of a method of estimating the basal metabolic rate.
While the patient is breathing normally into the spirometer he is instructed to make a deep expiration. It is important to ensure the maximal possible emptying of the lung so that all the reserve (supplemental) air will be expelled into the spirometer. To achieve this the subject must be stimulated to go on expelling air until the expiratory line flattens out. This process is repeated once or t...
متن کاملEvaluation of the turbine pocket spirometer.
A compact electronic spirometer, the turbine pocket spirometer, which measures the FEV1, forced vital capacity (FVC), and peak expiratory flow (PEF) in a single expiration, was compared with the Vitalograph and the Wright peak flow meter in 99 subjects (FEV1 range 0.40-5.50 litres; FVC 0.58-6.48 l; PEF 40-650 l min-1). The mean differences between the machines were small--0.05 l for FEV1, 0.05 ...
